Entry: Zero Energy Media Wall
Focus: GreenPix

Simone Giostra & Partners Architects have designed the GreenPix - Zero Energy Media Wall - a ground breaking project applying sustainable and digital media technology to the curtain wall of Xicui Entertainment Complex in Beijing, near the site of the 2008 Olympics. Featuring one of the largest colour LED display worldwide and the first photovoltaic system integrated into a glass curtain wall in China, GreenPix transforms the building envelop into a self-sufficient organic system, harvesting solar energy by day and using it to illuminate the screen after dark, mirroring a day’s climatic cycle. Arup provided lighting design and façade engineering for the project.

Entry: Scripting
Focus: We Are DAG

We Are DAG obsessions reside at the fuzzy intersection of the graphic and the built, the flat and the dimensional. We are attempting to programmatically address concepts of permutation and pattern as they relate to the (re)envisioning of the urban weft. I guess it could be said that we are interested in the artifact more than the thing itself.

Entry: Airbus
Focus: Beluga

The Airbus Transport International subsidiary of Airbus operates a fleet of five A300-600ST known as Belugas - one of the world’s largest cargo carriers. These aircraft perform regular airlift duties for Airbus, carrying fuselage sections and wings between the different European production sites, and they also are made available for chartered commercial flights.

Entry: Data Urbanism
Focus: SENSEable City Lab

The increasing deployment of sensors and hand-held electronics in recent years is allowing a new approach to the study of the built environment. The way we describe and understand cities is being radically transformed - alongside the tools we use to design them and impact on their physical structure. Studying these changes from a critical point of view and anticipating them is the goal of the SENSEable City Laboratory, a new research initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Entry: Optimized Buildings
Focus: Climate Design

The Climate Design course is aimed at professional architects and engineers as a possibility of further education, and at graduates from the disciplines of architecture, civil engineering, building services engineering, mechanical engineering and physics with at least one year of professional experience. The new program has an international and interdisciplinary orientation and accords great emphasis to practical work.

Entry: Human Biology
Focus: SymbioticA

SymbioticA is an artistic laboratory within the School of Anatomy and Human Biology at The University of Western Australia. It is dedicated to the research, learning and critique of life sciences. It is the first research laboratory of its kind, in that it enables artists to engage in wet biology practices in a biological science department. SymbioticA hosts residents, runs workshops, produces exhibitions and organises symposiums as part of the core activities.
