Focus: New Trends of Architecture

New Trends of Architecture was founded in 2001 by a group of cultural and press counselors to Japan of the fifteen EU member states, European cultural institutes, and the Delegation of the European Commission to Japan with the aim of creating opportunities to share ideas and experiences between Europe and Japan through organizing annual exhibitions and symposia for promising architects in Europe and Japan, to be held in Tokyo and in the European Cultural Capitals.

Focus: Designexplorer

Axel Kilian recently completed a PhD and subsequent Post Doctoral position in the Computation Group in the Department of Architecture at MIT. His PhD research centered on design exploration in the context of architecture and design processes using computational processes, namely programming and parametric design in combination with fabrication. Recent projects range from architectural form finding applications, collaboration on concept car designs with the media lab, to a number of full scale installations.

TAG is a platform for contemporary audio and visual art, based in The Hague and Amsterdam. The organisation aims to create an environment in which young professionals from different backgrounds can meet to exchange ideas and initiate new projects, thus creating network to share knowledge, experience and expertise.


Entry: Installation
Focus: Sonic War Game

Sonic Wargame, a quadraphonic installation made by the Dutch musician Xavier Van Wersch which allows four single players to compete under the supervision of a referee and the participation of the audience. The players, positioned at the corners of this installation, will be able to use a console and a speaker and, through a switch, to vote for the other players. Each time one of the players reaches two or three votes, the system will begin playing that player's sounds.
