Earth as Art Gallery! Here you can view our planet through the beautiful images taken by the Landsat-7 satellite - and most recently, the Terra Satellite's Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER). This gallery of images uses the visceral avenue of art to convey the thrilling perspective of the Earth that satellites provide to the viewer.

Entry: Geometry
Focus: Hyperbolic Planar Tesselations

Pictures of some regular tesselations of the hyperbolic plane. Each tesselation is represented by a Schlafli symbol of the form {p,q}, which means that q regular p-gons surround each vertex. There exists a hyperbolic tesselation {p,q} for every p,q such that (p-2)*(q-2) > 4.Each tesselation is shown in various stages of truncation. The dual of each tesselation or truncated tesselation is shown in blue. At the final stage of truncation (4.0) the object becomes its dual so those images are identical to the untruncated images except that the colors are reversed.

Entry: Western Civilization
Focus: Tropolism

Tropolism means believing that cities are the crowning achievement in our civilization. Tropolism means urban life is a glorious mess, as are the buildings and spaces that enable it. Tropolism means addicted to density. Tropolism means loving the works of architects, and all the public conversation that surrounds it, while retaining a healthy skepticism for what architects say about their work. Tropolism means writing about loving works of architects, and about skepticism for what they say. Tropolism means calling bullshit. Tropolism means no complaining. Tropolism means proposing new alternatives. Tropolism means finding beauty everywhere it exists. Tropolism means making the hidden city visible.

Entry: Numérique
Focus: Ciren

Cloudbait Observatory is currently located 5 km north of Guffey, Colorado. Sometime in the next few years I plan to move it to another location about 12 km further west. The roll-off building houses a permanently mounted 300mm LX200 Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope and a variety of instrumentation. It is designed for robotic operation.
