Losses from weather-related natural disasters - like hurricanes, tornadoes or floods - are increasing significantly. Especially in these situations, the high quality data and images delivered by the EUMETSAT system of meteorological satellites provide frequent and accurate input, helping to monitor and forecast the development of such dangerous weather situations. In additional, air-travel safety and scheduling depend to a great extent on reliable weather forecasts, as do shipping and other means of transportation, along with a variety of industries and, of course, daily life.

Artist exploring the new medium/tool of the World Wide Web and the Internet have quickly moved beyond the surface screen as a container for narrative, visual, textual or sound content. Some Web artists continually create works that in no way resemble what is found on TV screens, canvases, printed surfaces or in three-dimensional constructs. For 010101: Art in Technological Times, SFMOMA commissioned five artists to create new Web sites. These artists delve into, below, and beyond the screen where code, structure, timing, sequence, and new forms of interactive movement drive or even create the works of art.

Jürg Lehni has been working and playing with computers since 1985. He started his career with a lent Commodore VC-20 and continued later with his brother's C-64, before he finally got his own Amiga 500 in 1991. Early influences were the computer demo scene, computer games and the friendly clumsiness of early graphical user interfaces.
